Jamie Jenkins

Jamie has been nominated for his exceptional and tireless work with his ‘Dance for Parkinson’s Initiative’. Founded by Jamie, this inspiring program takes place weekly at Wrexham Coleg Cambria, drawing a vibrant group of participants each session. With unparalleled expertise, Jamie designs and leads engaging sessions that not only enhance cognitive skills, but also improve mobility. This class is far more than just an exercise session- it’s a lively community where individuals battling Parkinson’s can connect and share their journeys.
The participants are aged between 35 and 93, living with or have been affected by Parkinson’s Disease in some way. The classes are accompanied by a professional musician, Helen Parri, providing live music for the sessions.
In Wales there are around 6,000 people diagnosed with Parkinsons, with the majority over 50. The symptoms can include tremor, rigidity and slowness of movement and can cause a huge toll on not just a patient’s life but on carers like spouses and children, who in some cases even give up work as their loved one’s condition slowly worsens.
Dance for Parkinson’s has been proven to support people with Parkinson’s to develop confidence and strength, whilst temporarily relieving some participants of symptoms in everyday life.
Well done Jamie!
